الفرق بين Say و Tell و Speak و Talk

يجد الكثير من متعلمي الإنجليزية صعوبة في التمييز بين الأفعال say و tell و speak و talk. جميعها تتعلق بالكلام، لكن طريقة استخدامها في الإنجليزية تختلف. في هذا الدليل نشرح كل فعل على حدة، ونستعرض تراكيب الجمل الشائعة، ونوضح أكثر الأخطاء انتشارًا.

1. نظرة سريعة

إليك طريقة بسيطة لتذكّر الفكرة الأساسية لكل فعل:

• say: يركز على الكلمات التي قيلت
• tell: يركز على الشخص الذي يتلقى المعلومة
• speak: أكثر رسمية، ويستخدم كثيرًا مع اللغات و الخطابات الرسمية
• talk: أكثر عامية، ويستخدم في الحوار والنقاش

مذكّرة قصيرة بالإنجليزية:

say = the words, tell = the person;
speak = formal/ability, talk = chat/discuss.

2. Say: التركيز على ما قيل

نستخدم say عندما نهتم بـ ماذا قال الشخص – أي الجملة أو الرسالة نفسها.

تراكيب شائعة

• say + words/content

  • She said nothing.
  • Don’t say that.

• say (that) + clause

  • He said (that) he was busy.
  • They say (that) it will rain.

• say to somebody (أقل شيوعًا، خاصة في الكتابة)

  • She said to me, “Good luck.”

نقاط أساسية

• مع say يكون المفعول به عادةً هو الكلام، وليس الشخص.

• لا نستخدم عادةً say متبوعًا مباشرةً بشخص:

  • Wrong: He said me the truth.
  • Correct: He told me the truth.
  • Correct: He said (that) he was telling the truth.

استخدم say عندما تريد التركيز على العبارة أو الفكرة نفسها.

3. Tell: التركيز على من يستقبل الكلام

نستخدم tell عندما نريد التأكيد على لمن نقول المعلومة. غالبًا ما تتضمن الصيغة شخصًا في الجملة.

تراكيب شائعة

• tell + somebody + something

  • She told me the news.
  • Please tell him the truth.

• tell somebody that + clause

  • She told me that she was leaving.
  • He told us that the meeting was canceled.

• tell somebody to do something

  • My boss told me to finish it today.
  • I told you not to touch it.

• tell the truth

  • To tell the truth, I don’t like it.

• tell a story / tell a joke

  • Grandpa is telling the children a story.
  • He loves telling jokes.

• tell the difference

  • Can you tell the difference between these two photos?

• tell right from wrong

  • Children should learn to tell right from wrong.

خطأ شائع

• Wrong: She told that she was tired.
• Correct: She said that she was tired.
• Correct: She told me that she was tired.

تذكّر: غالبًا ما يأتي بعد tell شخص بشكل مباشر.

4. Speak: أكثر رسمية، عن اللغة والخطاب

يستخدم speak في سياقات أكثر رسمية، خاصةً عندما:

1. نتحدث عن القدرة على استخدام لغة ما
2. نتحدث عن خطابات أو كلمات رسمية

1) القدرة اللغوية

• Do you speak English?
• She speaks three languages.
• He doesn’t speak German very well.

في هذا المعنى لا نستخدم عادةً talk:

• Natural: He can speak French.
• Not natural: He can talk French.

2) خطاب أو كلمة رسمية

• The president will speak on TV tonight.
• She will speak at the conference.
• He spoke about climate change in his speech.

أنماط شائعة:

• speak about/on + topic
  • He spoke about his experience.
  • She spoke on education reform.

3) speak to/with somebody

• I need to speak to you.
• Can I speak with the manager, please?

speak to/with تشبه talk to/with، لكنها غالبًا تبدو أكثر رسمية أو جدية.

5. Talk: حديث ونقاش غير رسمي

talk أكثر عامية، ويُستخدم غالبًا لوصف الحوار، والدردشة، وتبادل الآراء بين شخصين أو أكثر.

استخدامات أساسية

• We talked for hours.
• They are talking on the phone.

أنماط شائعة

• talk to/with somebody

  • I like talking to my friends.
  • Can I talk with you for a minute?

• talk about + topic

  • Let’s talk about your plan.
  • We talked about the movie yesterday.

تعبيرات شائعة مع talk

• talk business

  • Let’s sit down and talk business.

• talk nonsense

  • Stop talking nonsense.

• talk sense

  • Now you’re talking sense.

• small talk (حديث خفيف/سطحي)

  • I’m not very good at small talk.

فكّر في talk عندما تتخيّل أشخاصًا يجلسون معًا، يتحاورون، ويتبادلون الأفكار، ويناقشون موضوعًا ما.

6. مقارنة ثنائية

a) Say vs. Tell

• say = التركيز على الكلمات
• tell = التركيز على الشخص + المعلومة

قارن:

• She said (that) she was tired.

  • المهم هنا الرسالة، ولا نعرف لمَن قالت ذلك.

• She told me (that) she was tired.

  • نعرف تمامًا لمن قالت ذلك: me.

أمثلة تصحيح إضافية:

• Wrong: He said me the truth.

  • Correct: He told me the truth.

• Wrong: She told that she would come.

  • Correct: She said that she would come.
  • Or: She told me that she would come.

قاعدة عملية:

• إذا أردت أن يأتي بعد الفعل شخص مباشرة، استخدم tell.
• إذا أردت أن يأتي بعده جملة أو كلام بين علامتي تنصيص، استخدم say.

b) Speak vs. Talk

• speak = أكثر رسمية، يُستخدم مع اللغات و الخطابات الرسمية
• talk = أكثر عامية، يُستخدم مع الحديث والنقاش

قارن:

• He can speak French.

  • يتحدث عن قدرته اللغوية.

• The manager will speak at the meeting.

  • يتحدث عن كلمة/خطاب رسمي في اجتماع.

• We talked about the meeting yesterday.

  • يتحدث عن حوار غير رسمي عن الاجتماع.

• I need to speak to you.

  • تبدو أكثر جدية أو رسمية.

• Can we talk?

  • تبدو شخصية وغير رسمية: “هل يمكن أن نتحدث؟”.

7. ملخص

يمكنك أن تحفظ الأفعال الأربعة بهذه الطريقة:

• say

  • التركيز: الكلمات / الرسالة
  • الأنماط: say (that) + clause, say + something

• tell

  • التركيز: من يتلقى المعلومة
  • الأنماط: tell + somebody + something, tell somebody that + clause, tell somebody to do something

• speak

  • التركيز: القدرة اللغوية، الخطاب الرسمي
  • الأنماط: speak English, speak at a conference, speak about/on + topic, speak to/with somebody

• talk

  • التركيز: الحديث غير الرسمي، النقاش
  • الأنماط: talk to/with somebody, talk about + topic
