Say, Tell, Speak और Talk में अंतर

कई अंग्रेज़ी सीखने वाले say, tell, speak और talk से कन्फ्यूज़ रहते हैं। ये चारों “बोलने” से जुड़ी क्रिया हैं, लेकिन अंग्रेज़ी में इनका इस्तेमाल अलग‑अलग तरह से होता है। इस गाइड में हम हर verb को अलग‑अलग देखेंगे, आम वाक्य संरचनाएँ समझेंगे और सबसे ज़्यादा होने वाली गलतियों की तरफ़ इशारा करेंगे।

1. त्वरित सारांश

हर verb का मुख्य आइडिया इस तरह याद रख सकते हैं:

• say: ध्यान क्या कहा गया इस पर रहता है
• tell: ध्यान किसे बताया गया इस पर रहता है
• speak: ज़्यादा formal होता है, खासकर language और formal speech के लिए
• talk: ज़्यादा informal होता है, conversation और discussion के लिए

एक छोटा‑सा इंग्लिश में याद रखने लायक वाक्य:

say = the words, tell = the person;
speak = formal/ability, talk = chat/discuss.

2. Say: क्या कहा गया

say तब इस्तेमाल होता है जब हमें ये मायने रखता है कि क्या कहा गया – असल sentence या message क्या था।

आम संरचनाएँ

• say + words/content

  • She said nothing.
  • Don’t say that.

• say (that) + clause

  • He said (that) he was busy.
  • They say (that) it will rain.

• say to somebody (कम मिलता है, ज़्यादातर लिखित भाषा में)

  • She said to me, “Good luck.”

मुख्य बातें

• say के साथ direct object आमतौर पर बोली गई बात होती है, न कि शख्स।

• आम तौर पर say के बाद सीधे person नहीं आता:

  • Wrong: He said me the truth.
  • Correct: He told me the truth.
  • Correct: He said (that) he was telling the truth.

जब आपका फ़ोकस इस पर हो कि “वाक्य/message क्या था”, तब say बेहतर है।

3. Tell: किसे क्या बताया गया

tell तब इस्तेमाल होता है जब हम ये दिखाना चाहते हैं कि किसको information दी जा रही है। इसकी structure में लगभग हमेशा कोई person होता है।

आम संरचनाएँ

• tell + somebody + something

  • She told me the news.
  • Please tell him the truth.

• tell somebody that + clause

  • She told me that she was leaving.
  • He told us that the meeting was canceled.

• tell somebody to do something

  • My boss told me to finish it today.
  • I told you not to touch it.

tell के साथ आम expressions

• tell the truth

  • To tell the truth, I don’t like it.

• tell a story / tell a joke

  • Grandpa is telling the children a story.
  • He loves telling jokes.

• tell the difference

  • Can you tell the difference between these two photos?

• tell right from wrong

  • Children should learn to tell right from wrong.

आम गलती

• Wrong: She told that she was tired.
• Correct: She said that she was tired.
• Correct: She told me that she was tired.

ध्यान रखें: tell के बाद लगभग हमेशा कोई व्यक्ति आता है।

4. Speak: थोड़ा formal, language और speech के लिए

speak ज़्यादातर formal context में इस्तेमाल होता है, खासकर जब हम:

1. किसी भाषा बोलने की क्षमता की बात कर रहे हों
2. किसी formal speech या talk की बात कर रहे हों

1) भाषा की क्षमता

• Do you speak English?
• She speaks three languages.
• He doesn’t speak German very well.

इस मतलब में आम तौर पर talk नहीं इस्तेमाल किया जाता:

• Natural: He can speak French.
• Not natural: He can talk French.

2) formal speech / addressing

• The president will speak on TV tonight.
• She will speak at the conference.
• He spoke about climate change in his speech.

आम patterns:

• speak about/on + topic
  • He spoke about his experience.
  • She spoke on education reform.

3) speak to/with somebody

• I need to speak to you.
• Can I speak with the manager, please?

speak to/with और talk to/with काफी मिलते‑जुलते हैं, लेकिन speak ज़्यादा formal या serious लगता है।

5. Talk: casual बात‑चीत और discussion

talk ज़्यादा informal है, और अक्सर रोज़मर्रा की conversation, discussion और दो‑तरफ़ा communication के लिए आता है।

basic इस्तेमाल

• We talked for hours.
• They are talking on the phone.

आम patterns

• talk to/with somebody

  • I like talking to my friends.
  • Can I talk with you for a minute?

• talk about + topic

  • Let’s talk about your plan.
  • We talked about the movie yesterday.

talk के common expressions

• talk business

  • Let’s sit down and talk business.

• talk nonsense

  • Stop talking nonsense.

• talk sense

  • Now you’re talking sense.

• small talk (हल्की‑फुलकी बातचीत)

  • I’m not very good at small talk.

जब आप दिमाग में ये तस्वीर देखते हैं कि लोग बैठकर आराम से बातें कर रहे हैं, ideas शेयर कर रहे हैं या किसी topic पर चर्चा कर रहे हैं, तो अक्सर talk सही verb होगा।

6. जोड़ी‑जोड़ी तुलना

a) Say बनाम Tell

• say = फ़ोकस कहे गए words पर
• tell = फ़ोकस person + information पर

Compare:

• She said (that) she was tired.

  • यहाँ message important है; ये नहीं बताया कि किससे कहा।

• She told me (that) she was tired.

  • यहाँ साफ़ है कि किससे कहा: me.

कुछ और correction examples:

• Wrong: He said me the truth.

  • Correct: He told me the truth.

• Wrong: She told that she would come.

  • Correct: She said that she would come.
  • Or: She told me that she would come.

practical rule:

• अगर verb के तुरंत बाद कोई व्यक्ति आ रहा है, तो tell इस्तेमाल करें।
• अगर verb के बाद sentence या quoted words आ रहे हैं, तो say इस्तेमाल करें।

b) Speak बनाम Talk

• speak = ज़्यादा formal, languages और official speech के लिए
• talk = ज़्यादा informal, conversation और discussion के लिए

Compare:

• He can speak French.

  • language ability की बात हो रही है।

• The manager will speak at the meeting.

  • formal बोलने/प्रेज़ेंटेशन की बात हो रही है।

• We talked about the meeting yesterday.

  • meeting के बारे में informal बातचीत की बात हो रही है।

• I need to speak to you.

  • tone ज़्यादा serious या formal है।

• Can we talk?

  • ज़्यादा personal और informal लगता है: “हम थोड़ी बात कर सकते हैं?”

7. सारांश

चारों verbs को ऐसे याद रख सकते हैं:

• say

  • focus: words / message
  • patterns: say (that) + clause, say + something

• tell

  • focus: who receives the information
  • patterns: tell + somebody + something, tell somebody that + clause, tell somebody to do something

• speak

  • focus: language ability, formal speaking
  • patterns: speak English, speak at a conference, speak about/on + topic, speak to/with somebody

• talk

  • focus: informal conversation, discussion
  • patterns: talk to/with somebody, talk about + topic

इन core ideas और patterns को याद रखेंगे तो say, tell, speak और talk के साथ होने वाली गलती काफी कम हो जाएगी।

फिर इन ideas को पूरा‑पूरा English sentence बनाइए, और सही verb चुनिए:

1. Be honest about your opinion of this movie.
2. You want to have a conversation with someone about their plan.
3. Someone tells you not to worry about the problem.
4. A friend can use German fluently in conversation.
