Group stage — 大会の第一段階。48チームが4チームずつ12グループに分けられ、各チームが他の3チームと1回ずつ対戦します。

Knockout stage — グループステージ後のノックアウト方式の段階。一度負ければ敗退です。

⚽ ピッチ上で
Pitch — 競技場（ピッチ）のこと。アメリカ英語では field と呼ばれます。

Penalty area (the box) — 各ゴール前にある長方形のエリア。このエリア内でのファウルはペナルティキックになります。よく「the box」や「the 18-yard box」とも呼ばれます。

Kit — チームのユニフォーム。シャツ、ショーツ、ソックスのことです。

Clean sheet — チームが1点も失点しなかったこと。アメリカ英語では shutout と言います。

Nil — スコア表記におけるゼロ。イギリスの実況者が「two-zero」と言うのを聞くことはまずありません。

⏱️ リスタートと時間
Corner kick — 守備側のチームが最後に触れたボールが自陣のゴールラインを越えた場合に与えられます。攻撃側がコーナーフラッグからキックします。

Goal kick — 攻撃側がボールをゴールラインの外に蹴り出した場合に守備側に与えられます。通常、ゴールキーパーが6ヤードボックス（ペナルティエリア内の小さな長方形）の中から蹴ります。

Handball — 選手（自陣ペナルティエリア内のゴールキーパーを除く）が意図的に手や腕でボールに触れること。フリーキックまたはペナルティキックになります。

Stoppage time — 怪我や交代で失われた時間を補うため、各ハーフの終了時に追加される分数。

👥 選手とポジション
Goalkeeper (keeper) — ゴールを守る選手で、唯一手を使うことが許されていますが、ペナルティエリア内に限られます。

🛡️ 守備と戦術
Park the bus — リードを守る、または引き分けを狙うために、ほぼ全員がボールの後ろに下がる超守備的な戦略。

🟨 審判の判定
Foul — 相手を蹴る、押す、足をかけるなどの反則行為。

Free kick — ファウルの後に与えられます。相手チームがファウルの発生した地点からプレーを再開します。
